Australian Gas Networks Ltd

About

Australian Gas Networks (AGN) is part of the Australian Gas Infrastructure Group (AGIG). We are one of Australia's largest natural gas distribution companies, delivering gas to over 1.3 million homes and businesses in South Australia, Victoria, Queensland, New South Wales and the Northern Territory. Natural Gas is an important part of our energy mix. Today, 6.5 million Australian homes rely on gas for cooking, hot water or heating.

Come in and speak with the team to learn how to achieve a 7-star new home build with the gas appliances you love.

Why Australian’s love gas:

1.      Gas heats water rapidly, providing a convenient, reliable solution for hot water. A continuous flow model heats water on demand (so it doesn’t run out) and is very compact compared to a storage tank (win-win!).

2. Enjoy optimum temperature control and reliability when cooking with gas.

3. Cosy spaces and perfect temperatures year-round with natural gas heating (and cooling!). You heard it right, cool your home with natural gas. Want to find out more? Come and talk to us.

The Future Of Gas Is Renewable

Gas is essential to our economy and modern lifestyles, supplying almost half of Australia’s household energy. But there is more we can do. As a business we are responding, taking active steps to transition to renewable gas delivery today and tomorrow. On our distribution networks, we are targeting volumes of 10% renewable gas by volume by 2030. Our aim is to transition our distribution networks to 100% renewable gas no later than 2050.

We plan to undertake this transition with two forms of new gas:

             1. Renewable Hydrogen. This is produced by separating hydrogen from water using renewable electricity.

             2. Biomethane. This is captured by decomposing organic waste from landfills, agricultural produce and wastewater treatment facilities.

Blending – or even substituting – Natural Gas with renewable hydrogen or biomethane can reduce carbon emissions, while still using our existing gas networks infrastructure. Our first blending project commenced in 2021 right here, in Mitchell Park South Australia with an up to 5% blend of renewable hydrogen being delivered to around 3800 homes. A number of new projects are now in various stages of development across Australia. Visit renewable-gas.com.au to learn more about how we’re forging a new path to low carbon living.
